Finalists in the 2023 Australian Space Awards

The Australian Space Awards celebrates the best of the best in Australia’s space sector and the outstanding contribution of professionals and businesses working within the industry across 21 categories. In a field of over 150 high-achieving professionals, these esteemed awards celebrate the foremost companies and experts in the field of space, acknowledging their exceptional accomplishments over the previous year and their efforts in advancing Australia’s space capabilities

The Skykraft team has been named as finalists in 4 categories for the design, manufacture and operations of large satellite constellations for the delivery of global services.

  • Business of the Year – SME: Skykraft

  • Innovator of the Year – Company: Skykraft

  • Engineer of the Year: Dr Douglas Griffin, Chief Engineer

  • Space Professional of the Year: Jacqui Tyack, Communications and Media

Skykraft’s world-leading space-based services for Air Traffic Management (ATM) has the potential to be a huge export opportunity for Australia. The ATM sector is currently reliant on ground-based communications infrastructure, which is limited to about 400 km from land, leaving large gaps in surveillance and communications for aircraft travelling across oceanic or remote areas. For Air Navigation Service Providers, existing ground-based infrastructure is expensive to maintain. Space-based ATM infrastructure provides an affordable alternative to ground-based systems and also enables less developed regions to rapidly access worlding-leading ATM services.

Skykraft’s space-based service provides complete, second-by-second global coverage, and enhances flightpath efficiency, enabling aircraft to travel in a more direct route over global airspace which translates into environmental benefits, fuel efficiency and reduced costs for airlines.

Working with an all-Australian supply chain, Skykraft is utilising advanced manufacturing technology embracing automation with human skill across metal fabrication, machined parts and electronics to sustain secure well-paid jobs and build a future made in Australia. We are introducing companies in our supply chain into the high-tech aerospace sector, helping the Australian Government reach the target of 1.2 million tech-related jobs by 2030.

The finalist list, was announced on Monday 3 April 2023. The winners will be announced at the Australian Space Awards in Sydney on Wednesday 17 May 2023. Good luck to all the outstanding nominees.
